PSE&G University Ave

PSE&G University Ave

Once considered an eyesore by many in the community, between University Avenue and Washington Street, in Newark, NJ, the competition winning design by OCA Architects, for the transformed Newark Switching Station in the Lincoln Park Arts District, was unveiled to the public in the Summer of 2018.

After years of deterioration, the walls surrounding the switching station and the transformers themselves, were in desperate need of an upgrade. PSE&G's decision to replace the aging transformers, switch gear and enclosure wall was eclipsed by a broader vision which included replacing the walls with a new design that would reflect Newark's artistic community spirit, enhance the surrounding area and provide an attractive connection to the Central Ward. The design wraps the switching station in painted aluminum and graphic concrete panels that will create the allusion of movement.
